Supporting our Communities and Families
With approximately 600 members of staff working across Jamaica at our seven Chukka locations, The Chukka Foundation appreciates our team of employees and community members.
We want to make a positive contribution to our communities resulting in a better place to live and work for Chukka, our employees and the people who live there already.
The Chukka Foundation offers aid in the development of the rural communities that our guests visit throughout Jamaica, Belize and Grand Turk.
Our goal is to assist these communities to achieve long term sustainability as an integral part of the tourism sector.
Support is given to our communities:-
❀The Carvell McDonald Memorial Scholarship was established in 2017. A full scholarship offered to local students, we are keen to extend to more students as our funding allows us to.
❀Supporting our local hospitals and regional health programmes to improve their facilities and services.
❀Artisan Programme – promoting and encouraging the talented artisans in our communities to grow. This has been a new programme that we have recently set-up to support local artisans who make handmade crafts as their primary source of income. Helping small craft persons or groups to earn an income, develop their work skills and build their trademark and brand. The beautiful and original handmade crafts are available for purchase at our location gift shops in the Foundation Section.
Environmental Awareness Programmes. Participating in events such as the International Coastal Cleanup Day (Jamaica Environmental Trust) has been one of the popular programmes with the Chukka team. Encouraging our staff, students and our community members to volunteer and build up environmental awareness.
