The first words that come to mind upon arriving at the Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge are escape, relaxation, and oasis.
Hidden away off the main road and surrounded by mountains – including the Sleeping Giant Mountain, where the lodge gets its name – this place is incredibly peaceful, with a spring-fed creek running throughout the property and birds chirping in the distance.
The friendly staff members instantly greet you with a tour of the property, including a stop at the lounge where guests can enjoy a cool beverage or a cup of coffee.
Upstairs is a lovely open-air restaurant offering breakfast, lunch and dinner. A mix of international cuisine, including authentic home-cooked Belizean dishes, will please every palate. Ask for a table on the balcony to enjoy the jungle views, or the private honeymoon section roped off complete with candles and flower petals, if it’s a romantic ambience you’re seeking.
There are no televisions on-site at the Sleeping Giant. Instead, its owners offer guests the chance to enjoy over 1,000 acres of rainforest, immersing themselves in the natural retreat.
Of course, that doesn’t mean your stay will be uneventful.
There are free guided hikes offered every night, where you can learn about the various species of birds, insects, and snakes. If you’re lucky, you may even see some howler monkeys – you’ll certainly hear them. Excursions to area waterfalls are also a popular choice, and the staff are happy to arrange day trips off- resort for active or cultural adventures in the region, including cave tubing, zip lining and rappelling.
While you’re out experiencing the best of Belize, the ultimate in relaxation awaits your return. The seven Spanish Casitas offer complete privacy, with large four-poster beds, detailed woodwork pieces, and outdoor Jacuzzis. Hammocks or lounge chairs sit on outdoor patios, perfect for reading a book or taking a nap by the creek.
Four Garden View Rooms are located in the main lodge, with direct outdoor access, spacious marble and granite bathrooms, and your choice of king, single, or bunk beds. For small groups or families, Sleeping Giant offers the River House, which has two separate bedrooms, and sleeps up to eight. The rooms share a full kitchen, as well as living area, and each has its own outdoor Jacuzzi.
Surrounded by lush vegetation, the resort’s brand new pool area completes your stay. Water fountains accent the main pool, with hammocks and lounge chairs beckoning in the afternoon sun. A large Jacuzzi tub sits on top of the pool, offering an expansive view of the grounds, while off to the side, a small plunge pool is perfect for children.
Relaxation, adventure, nature, and romance. Sleeping Giant Rainforest Lodge really does provide the best of all worlds.
