Chukka Foundation

Our Mission Statement

“We are dedicated to achieving lasting, positive changes to the lives of children, youth and families, including our Chukka families, in their local communities. Empowering through education and scholarships; improving lives and offering philanthropic support; promoting responsible and compassionate care towards animal welfare.”

About Us

The Chukka Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Chukka, strives to be responsible to the communities which we live and work in. We recognize that as a large organization, we have the ability to make an effective difference in our communities.

We have had a registered Foundation since 2008 and we take great pride in the aid we have extended to our communities in key areas that allow them to achieve long term sustainability and improve lives.

Children

Children need a good quality education to reach their full potential, however for many children there are challenges beyond their reach, even learning basic skills like reading.

Dedicated and determined to make a difference, the Chukka Foundation has made it a consistent priority to support the community with scholarships for local students. Providing assistance to schools by improving classroom facilities and supporting children with much needed school supplies is considered a high priority.

The Chukka Foundation aims to focus on helping children to read and we welcome support and involvement to nurture our schools and libraries needs.

“It takes a village to raise a child”

Through your donations, our fundraising efforts, partnering with local companies and agencies, we are proud to be working with our community schools to provide the help they need.

Supporting our Communities and Families

With approximately 600 members of staff working across Jamaica at our seven Chukka locations, The Chukka Foundation appreciates our team of employees and community members.

We want to make a positive contribution to our communities resulting in a better place to live and work for Chukka, our employees and the people who live there already.

The Chukka Foundation offers aid in the development of the rural communities that our guests visit throughout Jamaica, Belize and Grand Turk.

Our goal is to assist these communities to achieve long term sustainability as an integral part of the tourism sector.

Support is given to our communities:

  • The Carvell McDonald Memorial Scholarship was established in 2017. A full scholarship offered to local students, we are keen to extend to more students as our funding allows us to.
  • Supporting our local hospitals and regional health programmes to improve their facilities and services.
  • Artisan Programme – promoting and encouraging the talented artisans in our communities to grow. This has been a new programme that we have recently set-up to support local artisans who make handmade crafts as their primary source of income. Helping small craft persons or groups to earn an income, develop their work skills and build their trademark and brand. The beautiful and original handmade crafts are available for purchase at our location gift shops in the Foundation Section.
  • Environmental Awareness Programmes. Participating in events such as the International Coastal Cleanup Day (Jamaica Environmental Trust) has been one of the popular programmes with the Chukka team. Encouraging our staff, students and our community members to volunteer and build up environmental awareness.

Animal Welfare

Animal welfare is an important emerging global issue and the Chukka Foundation is keen to provide assistance in making a difference especially as we have furry friends at some of our Chukka tour locations!

We are committed to promoting animal welfare and reducing the overpopulation of strays and street cats and dogs within our communities with Spay & Neuter Clinics.

Spay & Neutering Clinics have been beneficial with the Jamaica Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (J.S.P.C.A.) and the Chukka Foundation sponsors and actively participates with this much needed community service.

his programme is offered free of cost to pet owners of low income families and pensioners.

Working with The Montego Bay Animal Haven, a registered non-profit organization serving stray and abandoned animals, we offer our support with fundraising and educational programmes in schools.

Education about the humane treatment of animals is vital and through children, school programmes empower young people to take positive action. Awareness in regards to care, humane treatment of animals and the importance of spay and neuter clinics.

Polo Charity Event

The Chukka Foundation and Hanover Charities host their signature, social fundraising affair – The Polo Charity Event every February at Chukka Sandy Bay in Hanover.

As Jamaica’s most prestigious and largest Polo Charity Event, the fundraising affair benefits the Chukka Foundation and Hanover Charities in their philanthropic efforts to continue supporting education, health programs, local student scholarships and assisting communities in need.

The Polo Event is a family-focused, quintessentially fun afternoon of Polo and socializing, followed by an evening of partying and merry making.

With the endorsement of The Jamaica Tourist Board, sponsors and partnerships, proceeds are used to support communities and impact so many lives!

We are dedicated to continue making this an annual event that will bring the community together and raise funds for scholarships and community projects.
