On Friday 10 July between 8am and 2pm, a team of 13 volunteers from Chukka travelled to their Sandy Bay location to partner with The Montego Bay Animal Haven to conduct a free spay and neuter clinic for the animals of the community.

Following weeks of co-ordinating tent rental, dog food supplies, refreshments, newspaper collection, transportation, volunteers and volunteer shirts, the day was touted as “smooth and successful” by Tammy Browne of Montego Bay Animal Haven and “interesting and enjoyable” by the Chukka contingent.

Friends of Montego Bay Animal Haven Stephanie, Emiko, Kia, Nicky, Naomi and Kiwanian Hope Markes assisted in registration and weighing; then a total of 14 dogs and cats were operated on by international vet Dr. Rohan Smith a Jamaican, qualified in Russia, practicing in USA, assisted by Vet technician Alexandria and Vet student Andre.

Aspiring vets Savannah & Mya (children of Chukka corporate employees) along with Christen and Gabriel  soothed the animals in recovery, while corporate employees Olivia, Sharnett and Kerry-Ann discharged the animals with dog food, collar and lead, back to their owners.

Great moments of the day included (photos left to right below):

  • the naming of 3 puppies brought to the clinic in a bucket by owner Maurice – Marcus, Moet and Miracle!
  • sending off the first family in attendance with a successfully spayed “Blonde”!
  • seeing teenage-want-to-be-vet Savannah gently cleaning Shirley in recovery, realizing that this is indeed her calling!
